The Corona crisis is a great challenge for everyone and is affecting every part of society, especially with increasing social distancing. However, at the same time, the pandemic connects the global community: Never before has solidarity been as important and as widespread as today. Together, we have to be accountable for each other. The German Red Cross has launched a Corona Emergency Relief Fund and is appealing for collective support to ensure fast and comprehensive help for those in need.
The corona pandemic is a worldwide crisis. At the end of March, 199 countries or territories have been affected, over 720,000 cases and 34,000 deaths have been confirmed worldwide. The coronavirus is also rapidly spreading in Germany. At the end of March, there were more than 62,000 confirmed cases all over the country. This crisis is a great challenge for everyone and is affecting every part of our society, especially with increasing social distancing.
Never before has solidarity been as important and as widespread as today. Together, we have to be accountable for each other. The German Red Cross has thus launched a Corona Emergency Relief Fund and is appealing for collective support to help for those in need by providing essential items (food, toiletries, medicine), offering shopping and delivery services, psychosocial care and help by telephone for the elderly and quarantined, and implementing mobile medical practices.
In its auxiliary roll as the national voluntary aid society, the GRC supports the German Federal Government in the areas of disaster control and civil protection. With more than 435,000 volunteers and 175,000 full-time employees, it provides help for the elderly and people in need to minimize the impact of the crisis on their lives.
