The Garage School expansion

Thanks to your generosity, the project is up and running.  It's very exciting and impactful. More children are able to be educated and safe off the streets. 

Although the project is now inaugurated, more funds are needed for the maintenance and upkeep. This is where you come in. Helping keep this momentum going. 

The Garage School caters to street children in Neelum Colony, slums, which is adjacent to some of the poshest and wealthiest areas of Karachi. It was founded to help these neglected children be educated as well as off the streets.  It has been running successful for decades and the children graduate to university and meaningful careers and lives. Thank you for your support.

Every year, more street children are educated through The Garage School in Karachi, Pakistan. Your donation not only helps build an expansion building, but means space for more and more children to be educated.

One way to transcend a socio-economic class is education. Not only does it give you skills, but it opens your eyes to possibilities.

The Garage School sees possibilities in all children. Every single one. Even those who may not see any for themselves or whose families would not dream of such a destiny. Your donation reflects that you see possibilities in these children and for that, we must give thanks and acknowledge the impact of your funds.

Students go on to university, getting jobs as professionals, while their parents are usually household servants.

As The Garage School has a track record of top education for these very deserving children who are the offspring of the servants of the very rich surrounding area.  There is so much demand, this new building was the need of the day. Thanks to you, we are almost there.

Since 1999, the most deserving of children have been educated and many gone on to great jobs. And now, in 2022, this project is expanding - with your help - to this new building. The need is real and the impact enormous. The children are not just intelligent, but street-smart. Given proper "Tarbiat" (grooming) and a good education, they are being trained to be positive and useful members of society. This new school building is enabling enhanced capacity to 800 students. There are so many things that go to creating structures and systems, even if it is with the purest of intentions.  The building itself has to be fundraise and made, and the teachers and students have to be safe and healthy and able to study.

As The Garage School has a track record of top education for these very deserving children who are the offspring of the servants of the very rich surrounding area, there is always this built in irony as there is struggle to educate these children in a very downtrodden area and so much effort to raise the funds, while just next door is the greatest wealth of the country, lavishly spent on parties and fancy clothes and cars.

When I was first introduced to The Garage School, it reminded me of the film/musical Oliver Twist. Think of these adorable street urchins (albeit not pocket thieves) but truly cute imps who were the children of servants who worked in the grand estates next door to the school.

What the amazing Shabina and her team have done is give not just an education but a voice, a love and a spotlight to these wonderful kids, who would otherwise be not just unseen, but forgotten.
