The Cancer Run is an annual event organized by the Rotary Cancer Program Uganda since 2016 to raise funds to tackle the cancer crisis in Uganda by building and facilitating the Rotary Cancer Center Nsambya Hospital Kampala Uganda with the required equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients. The program has previously built and operationalized a cancer treatment ward and now looks ahead to construct the first fully-equipped cancer center in Uganda at Nsambya Hospital.
Uganda is in a deep hole of a rising cancer crisis. Cancer has become one of the top five (5) leading causes of deaths due to late diagnosis, limited treatment options and extremely high treatment costs.
The Rotary Cancer Program Uganda embarked on the Cancer Run to fundraise for the construction of the cancer treatment ward at Nsambya Hospital, which is now operational and can diagnose, treat chemotherapy, and provide psychological support, having helped over 3,000 patients to date. The program is now grappling with constructing the first fully-equipped cancer center in Uganda and once completed, it will house two linear accelerators and cutting-edge technologies for comprehensive cancer care.
The fully-equipped and functional cancer center at Rotary Cancer Center Nsambya Hospital Kampala Uganda shall offer enhanced cancer screening services as well as provide access to more treatment options to cancer patients The Rotary Cancer Center shall make world class cancer treatment a reality for every Uganda and not just those who can afford to. This shall help address the rising cancer crisis that Uganda faces and therefore improve on the health standards of Uganda.
