World Heart Beat: The Bob Buiaroski Bursary Fund

By Lottie Parsons | PR and Marketing Officer

Dear Friends,

Thank you for supporting World Heart Beat Music Academy via the The Bob Buiaroski Bursary Fund.

Bob’s heartfelt and beautiful legacy will help fund our Bursary Songwriting, Guitar, Vocal and Gig Training sessions for the next generation of young musicians living in South London. These sessions help young people find the transformative powers of music, as well as providing life-changing opportunities that build confidence, self-esteem and career paths in creative industries.

Sahana Gero MBE, Founder and Artistic Director, founded World Heart Beat in 2009. The academy provides opportunities to help transform the lives of some of the most deprived, ethnically diverse, and socially polarised neighbourhoods in the country. In recognition of its work, World Heart Beat won Best Charity/Social Enterprise as part of the Wandsworth Women’s Enterprise Awards 2024.

Last year, World Heart Beat supported 446 students per week; held 6,634 music sessions and provided 6,411 hours of music tuition. Its recently opened second venue, World Heart Beat Embassy Gardensin Nine Elms has staged 88 concerts attracting 5,000 audience members, with over 700 musicians performing live

The new venue will enable World Heart Beat to double its reach for music tuition whilst also creating a leading music venue featuring state-of-the-art concert hall, recording studio and cafe. Now fully operational, its objective is to generate more earned income streams which will help fund its charitable activities.

World Heart Beat offers eighteen different music programmes, including instrumental lessons such as piano, violin, clarinet, cello through to jazz, Asian music, songwriting, Celtic fiddle, and American big bandYoung people are given opportunities to perform together during end of term concerts (for example, Piano Parties and Singers Soirées), take part in concerts in the local community, as well as attend masterclasses and perform alongside established musicians from across the globe. Local schools are offered free taster courses in music for young people in KS2 interested in learning an instrument. There is a strong volunteering and mentoring programme in place, as well as our EMERGE initiative; an industry training and development programme for those keen to progress in the music industry.

To find out more about World Heart Beat, please sign up to our monthly eshotcome along to one of our many concerts featuring students, through to emerging and established artistsor sign up to our Memberships Programme (starting from £25/year), all of which positively impacts the lives of young people living in South London.

Thank you again for your support, and best wishes.

'This is the kind of priceless cultural legacy that gives pride to those 5 to 25-year-old local people who walk through the doors as equals. The enterprise could be a blueprint for every comparable urban communityFiona Maddocks, The Observer, 3/2/24
