In memory of a wonderful man and in partnership with World Heart Beat Music Academy, the Bob Buiaroski Bursary Fund supports young bursary students, many of whom come from disadvantaged and low income backgrounds, to connect with music. Music was a big part of Bob's life and a deep passion of his. Your donation will help fund our Bursary Songwriting, Guitar, Vocal and Gig Training Sessions for the next generation of young musicians - helping them find the transformative powers of music.
The level of child poverty in our area is worse than the England average with 22.4% of children in Wandsworth aged under 16 years living in poverty. World Heart Beat was established in 2009 to address the lack of affordable music funding from grassroots to professional level for South Londoners, irrespective of age, background or skills. It provides music tuition and performances opportunities for c.440 young people each year outside of school hours.
With additional cuts to arts funding in schools and further education, there's even less chance of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to be able to access music. 50% of our students attend our academy for free; by removing financial barriers through bursaries, low fee and by loaning instruments, we can engage with children from challenging backgrounds, including those from low-income families and recent migrants and refugees.
Our music programmes nurture the next generation, supporting them to realise their potential and to make a positive impact on the lives of young people. Our bursary programme is invaluable to enable young people from all backgrounds to experience the opportunities that music brings, from grassroots level. For those wishing to take music to career level, we have a state of the art music education centre at Nine Elms, Battersea with concert hall, recording and podcast studio.
