Project Report
Project Title: Help 2,341 Rural Nigerian Kids Test Genotype and Blood Group
Organization: Young and Gifted Youth Development Initiative (YAGYDI)
Reporting Period: January – March 2026
Report Due Date: April 2, 2026
I want to give you a clear and honest update.
Since launching this project on GlobalGiving, we are yet to received the donated funding through the platform, and as a result, we have not been able to begin implementation of the testing activities.
We made a deliberate decision not to start partial delivery without the required resources.
This is to ensure that when we begin, we can:
Deliver safely
Maintain quality standards
Reach children in a structured and complete way
What We Have Done So Far
Even without funding, we have not been idle.
I have led early groundwork to prepare for implementation:
Community Entry and Engagement
Initiated conversations with schools in Oke-Ose and Oke-Oyi communities
Engaged school leaders and introduced the project concept
Identified potential beneficiary groups
Planning and Coordination
Developed a phased implementation plan
Identified required testing kits and logistics needs
Engaged potential volunteers and local coordinators
Awareness Building
Began informal sensitization discussions with community stakeholders
Highlighted the importance of genotype awareness and early testing
This groundwork ensures that once funding is secured, we can move quickly into execution.
Key Challenge
The main barrier is simple:
Funds raised through GlobalGiving has not been released into our account
Without this, we cannot:
Procure testing kits
Cover logistics
Deploy trained personnel to the field
What This Means
Children in these communities are still:
Without access to genotype testing
At risk of preventable health complications linked to Sickle Cell Disease
Lacking basic health information that should be available early in life
This reinforces why the project is urgent.
What We Are Doing Next
I am focusing on unlocking the next phase:
Strengthening fundraising efforts beyond GlobalGiving
Engaging individual donors and partners directly
Increasing visibility of the project through digital platforms
Exploring institutional and grant opportunities
At the same time, we remain ready to begin implementation immediately no matter small the initial funding is.
How Support Can Change This
This project is fully designed and ready.
What is missing is the funding to activate it.
A small donation can support testing for multiple children
Early contributions help us launch the first phase
Momentum from initial donors often attracts larger funding
