Colombia's strongest earthquake in a decade struck on August 10. Across Choco, Valle del Cauca, Cauca and Risaralda, families lost homes, water systems and access to food and medicine. Many live in rural areas reachable only by river. Aid concentrates where it is easiest to arrive. This project supports families in those municipalities through community organizations already based there, who know every road and every family and were responding within hours.
Funds go directly to community organizations already working in the affected municipalities, with no intermediaries and no spending plan written elsewhere. Each organization decides what its community needs most: drinking water, food, medical supplies, hygiene kits, shelter. When the emergency ends, they stay. The same organizations that responded in the first hours will accompany families through the recovery, and every contribution is publicly reported.
Families across Choco, Valle del Cauca, Cauca and Risaralda will recover water access, housing conditions and livelihoods with support that continues after the emergency ends. Nine community organizations will come out of this response with more resources and experience than they had before, so the communities they serve are not left waiting for outside help the next time. Each response leaves them stronger for the one that comes after.
