Flash floods and landslides across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra destroyed homes and left many families without a safe place to return to. Although the emergency phase has passed, recovery is still ongoing. This project will help build 143 temporary homes across five priority areas, giving affected families safer and more dignified living conditions while they wait for permanent housing.
Many families still live in evacuation centres, public facilities, or relatives' homes because their houses were swept away, collapsed, or became unsafe. At least 53,396 homes were severely damaged. Prolonged displacement leaves families with limited privacy, unstable living conditions, and fewer safe spaces to care for children and rebuild daily routines.
Human Initiative will build temporary homes in Pante Beureune, Langkahan, Sunting, Salareh Aia, and Muaro Pingai. Support will cover structural materials, floors, walls, roofs, doors, ventilation, basic facilities, clean water, toilets, sanitation, construction, monitoring, and supervision. These homes will provide protection and stability during recovery.
Temporary housing gives families a safer place to rest, care for their children, protect their remaining belongings, and regain privacy. With a stable place to live, they can move beyond prolonged displacement and focus on rebuilding their homes, livelihoods, and future. This project supports a more dignified and sustainable path towards post-disaster recovery.
