Fear of Judgment Keeps Many Women Away from Clinic

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

Thank you for supporting the Telehealth for Sex Workers: Anonymous Doctor Chats project. We appreciate every contribution received and the compassion shown toward people who face barriers when trying to access healthcare.

For many women in this situation, seeking medical help is not as simple as visiting a clinic. Fear of being recognized, concerns about privacy, and previous negative experiences discourage many from speaking openly about their health needs. As a result, health problems that could have been treated early are sometimes ignored until they become more serious.

At present, the donations received are still not sufficient to begin implementation of the project. Additional funding is needed before we can establish the anonymous chat platform and connect users with trained healthcare professionals.

The planned service will allow users to seek medical advice without revealing their identity. Through simple mobile phones, they will be able to communicate with doctors, ask questions, and receive information on reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy-related concerns, and emotional well-being. The platform is designed to be easy to access and available in local languages.

Many people living with untreated infections or other health concerns delay care because they do not feel safe discussing their situation in public settings. Creating a confidential channel for medical guidance can help remove one of the biggest obstacles standing between them and the care they need.

We are thankful for the support received so far. Every donation moves this project one step closer to providing a private and trusted source of healthcare information for people who may have nowhere else to turn.

We hope to share implementation updates and progress with you as soon as the project reaches the stage where activities can begin.

Thank you for your kindness and continued support.

Sincerely,

Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
