As is a part of puberty education, we worked with a group of professionals to provide sex education for migrant children. On April 24th and May 8th, 12 instructors came to Wenhui School and delivered workshops for 326 students from Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 5. In the class, the instructors help children identify the private parts of their bodies and learn how to protect or react if their privacies were violated through interactive games, scenarios, dolls, and drawing. After the class, many children gathered around the instructor and asked: "Teacher, I love your class! When will you come back to teach us again? We believe this class left a deep impression on the children and will make a difference in their lives.
To better complement the children's sexual health education, we also delivered training for 13 parents and 24 teachers through PTA on April 26 and April 28. The participants said that through the training they started to establish a different understanding of sex education which they were reluctant or embarrassed to talk about previously.
We know that one workshop is not enough to break the taboo of sex talk in family education. In the following months, we will continue to work with the professionals to develop more interactive and educational workshops and appropriate contents for the children and their parents.
