Electricity, the internet, projectors and smartphones have created new and exciting opportunities to improve students' learning, but rural schools in Kenya and Uganda struggle to use these tools due to a lack of facilities, resources and training. This project will help EPAfrica's partner schools level the playing field through investment in e-learning, projectors, the internet, computers and solar power, and by supporting teachers with capacity building and training.
Our partner schools lack computers, electricity and empowered teachers to effectively use learning technologies in the classroom. As computers become more available, without support, teachers lack the confidence and skills to use them. Students miss out on opportunities to learn now, and those leaving school unable to use modern technologies are less competitive in the job market, meaning rural school leavers in particular fall behind their urban peers.
We will collaborate with 8 schools to identify the biggest opportunities for technology to improve learning and post-secondary opportunities. Together we will improve facilities, support teachers and ensure a sustainable power supply. The provision of computers, laptops and projectors can enable students to develop skills, study independently and learn more effectively. Training and support will help teachers develop their digital teaching skills, and help schools make their admin more efficient
This funding will enable us to improve the situation in 8 schools, directly impacting the education and learning opportunities of at least 4000 students. These projects will empower teachers to use modern methods and engage more students in learning. Together, this will lead to schools having better results, making school leavers more competitive in the job market. Furthermore, school administration will become more effective and efficient, and power will be cheaper and more reliable.
