2. W.TEC Academy Kwara State Career Day Event

Introduction

The Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC), Kwara State, successfully hosted a Career Day event on Tuesday, 24th June 2025 at One Innovation Hub, Offa. The aim of the event was to inspire and expose young girls to career opportunities in the technology sector through hands-on learning and engagement with tech professionals.

This impactful event was made possible through the generous sponsorship of PLAT Technologies, whose support enabled the participation of 40 girls from secondary schools across Offa.

Participants

A total of 40 girls participated in the event, drawn from the following schools:

  • St. Clare’s Anglican Girls Grammar School
  • Anglican Comprehensive College
  • Offa Grammar School
  • Government Day Secondary School, Offa

Facility Tour and Practical Session

The girls were taken on an educational tour of the hub's key innovation spaces:

  • Design Room for PCB and Drone Manufacturing: Students learned about the purpose of the room and its role in hardware development.
  • Fabrication Room: They were shown various machines and components used in creating digital designs, including both ongoing projects and finished prototypes.

Although the students could not observe a drone flight or engage in hands-on PCB work due to technical constraints, Mr. Feranmi provided a thorough verbal explanation of the processes involved and promised future opportunities for practical exposure.

Student Engagement
After the practical session, students asked questions and shared what they had learned. Mr. Feranmi responded to all questions and further engaged them in a brief discussion to reinforce their learning.

Closing Session
Miss Monsurat, W.TEC’s Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, gave a closing vote of thanks, appreciating the One Innovation Hub team for their warm reception and the knowledge shared with the students.
