Appleseeds' Fall Camp was held for underserved youth who live in the socioeconomic and geographic periphery of Israel. The camp attendees are first year students that are part of our four year afterchool Net@ Technological Youth program, which includes advanced tech training combined with social and personal development components. These were youth who did not attend the summer tech camp because they were either unable or had not yet been registered in the program. We wanted to ensure they had the same technological and social orientation experience that their peers, who attended the summer tech camp, had.
The Fall camp was the beginning of their four year Net@ journey and ran in Acre, Ashkelon, Karmiel, Jerusalem, Ramla & Tel Aviv. Eighty-seven first year Net@ youth from across the country attended the full 3 day program in October. They explored 3 main areas: 1) Technological Content; 2) Social content and; 3) Understanding the Net@ Vision. This tech camp also included introductory training and an overview of the three expertise program tracks: Entrepreneurship, Youth training Youth & FixIt Lab ( a student run computer lab that provides computer repair for a subsidized cost to the community). Participants choose which expertise track they would like to focus on during their participation in the program.
For the first time, 3 students with special education needs who have communication & motor problems attended the camp with their parents. They were excited to study computer studies and be part of an inclusive & enriching program.
