UPDATE REPORT ON TECH BEHIND BARS PROJECT.
The Tech Behind Bars project is currently constrained by inadequate funding for monitoring, evaluation, and reporting—critical elements needed to move the project from planning to implementation. Support at this stage is therefore transformative.
The project seeks monetary and in-kind contributions to provide computers, accessories, offline educational software, instructor training, and effective project coordination and evaluation. Donations of equipment, software, and digital learning tools are also welcomed.
The initiative will initially serve incarcerated youth and young adults preparing for reintegration, prioritizing those committed to personal growth, with plans to scale across multiple facilities.
With adequate support, Tech Behind Bars will improve digital literacy, confidence, and constructive engagement in the short term; enhance employability and reintegration outcomes in the medium term; and contribute to reduced recidivism, improved economic stability, and safer communities in the long term.
Participant progress will be monitored through skills assessments, attendance and completion tracking, practical projects, and feedback, ensuring accountability and continuous learning.
The long-term vision is to institutionalize technology education within correctional rehabilitation by expanding to more facilities, training peer mentors, building employer and reentry partnerships, and advocating for inclusive digital education policies, transforming incarceration into a pathway to opportunity rather than exclusion.
