Dear Amazing Leadership Initiatives Donor,

First and foremost, thank you! Your donations will continue to empower individuals and communities across Bauchi State, Nigeria, giving them the opportunity to form connections and address local issues using community resources. Donors’ contributions have allowed Leadership Initiatives and their students to carry out their mission of improving lives in Bauchi through supporting health initiatives and working to develop innovative solutions to problems facing the Nagari Medical Clinic and Maternity Ward. Ritvik, Sadhika, Nihira, Shobhit, and Vishak have been engaged in months of cultural immersion and have been building connections with community leaders in Nigeria to address imperative health issues that our communities in northern Nigeria are facing.

Team PH22180 has worked throughout the last seven months to create and develop a deep understanding of how harmful effects of traditional medicine impacts the Inkil community.

Ritvik, Sadhika, Nihira, Shobhit, and Vishak have been working with Rabiu Garba, a project coordinator in the field in the Inkil community. Through skype calls, the team has learned about the obstacles facing individuals that are dealing with harmful effects of traditional medicine. In January, Team PH22180 worked hard to create a public health proposal to address harmful effects of traditional medicine in the Inkil community. Your support of team PH22180 interns and their hard work is crucial to the success of each team and solution.

For team PH22180’s final intervention, Ritvik, Sadhika, Nihira, Shobhit, and Vishak are preparing a community workshop to build individual and community capacity to address harmful effects of traditional medicine. By increasing health knowledge and self-sufficiency through a range of activities such as outreach, community education, informal counseling, social support, and advocacy, Ritvik, Sadhika, Nihira, Shobhit, and Vishak hope to prevent and lower the prevalence of harmful effects of traditional medicine in the Inkil community.

As a donor to this project, we are thankful for your support as we attempt to transform lives. Please consider participating in the upcoming Little by Little campaign GlobalGiving is hosting from April 3rd - April 7th, 2023.

Dear Amazing Leadership Initiatives Donor,

To start off, thank you for your donations! These donations will continue to help enhance communities and create change in Bauchi State, Nigeria. Your support towards our student interns allows them to address major challenges in the community. Without the help of our donors, this would not have been possible. The student interns in our program have learned so much from our partners in Nigeria and have worked hard to create a better life for those in Bauchi. For our business program, each team has gone through the process of bonding with their business partner, learning about their lives, realizing the largest issues facing the business, and developing solutions to these issues. For our advocacy and public health programs, teams have gotten to know their project coordinator, learned all about their issue's history and present status in Nigeria, and developed a campaign to raise awareness for their issue in the community.

Our students in the business, public health, and advocacy programs worked hard throughout the year to improve the lives of those in Bauchi, Nigeria. We are so proud of the student interns for how well they finished the year out. To start off, those in our Business program ended the year by finishing their micro-grant solution proposal and having one final call with their business partner to go over their innovative solution with them. For our Advocacy and Public Health programs, student interns finished off by drafting and finalizing a full community workshop for facilitators to implement on the ground. These community workshops will be used to inform residents of Sabuwar Kasuwa and Gudum Sayawa communities in Bauchi about several advocacy and public health issues. To officially end the year off, these students had a Skype call with their project coordinator where they explained to them exactly how to give the community workshop and what information should be included in it.

While the International Internship Program takes a break this summer, the work that our interns do continues in Washington D.C. on the Georgetown University campus. Here, we are running our Youth Development Programs focusing on medicine and public health, business, law, national security, and neuroscience. Similar to IIP, each of the interns in this program is working to create positive change in the United States and abroad. In the Advanced Medical and Public Health Internship, interns are diagnosing real patients and developing public health campaigns. In the International Leadership and Business Internship, interns are launching a startup with entrepreneurs based in Nigeria and securing a grant for these new businesses. Our Advanced Law and Trial interns are assisting attorneys with court documents, research, and trial preparation. National Security and Intelligence interns are working directly with national security experts to train in the latest intelligence tactics and implement security strategies to save lives. Finally, in the Medical Neuroscience Internship, interns are participating in cutting-edge neuroscience and ethics research.

As a donor to this project, we are so thankful to have your support as we attempt to create change for those in Bauchi Nigeria. Everyone at Leadership Initiatives would love to have you more involved in our organization if you would ever want to help us grow our programs or learn more about ways that you can assist. Please contact Executive Director Marshall Bailly at mbailly@lichange.org if you have any suggestions, questions, or comments!
