Leadership Initiatives Students Creating Change

Dear Amazing Leadership Initiatives Donor,

First and foremost, thank you! Your donations will continue to empower individuals and communities across Bauchi State, Nigeria, giving them the opportunity to form connections and address local issues using community resources. Donors’ contributions have allowed Leadership Initiatives and their students to carry out their mission of improving lives in Bauchi through supporting health initiatives and working to develop innovative solutions to problems facing the Nagari Medical Clinic and Maternity Ward. Sabrina, Karen, Emily, Camilla, Aarav, Gabriela, and Milka have been engaged in months of cultural immersion and have been building connections with community leaders in Nigeria to address imperative health issues that our communities in northern Nigeria are facing. 

Team PH22143 has worked throughout the last seven months to create and develop a deep understanding of Under five immunization unique to the Guru community. 

Sabrina, Karen, Emily, Camilla, Aarav, Gabriela, and Milka have been working with Mubarak, a project coordinator in the field in the Guru community. Through skype calls, the team has learned about the obstacles facing individuals that are dealing with Under five immunization. In January, Team PH22143 worked hard to create a public health proposal to address Under five immunization in Guru community. Your support of team PH22143 interns and their hard work is crucial to the success of each team and solution. 

For team PH22143’s final intervention, Sabrina, Karen, Emily, Camilla, Aarav, Gabriela, and Milka are preparing a community workshop to build individual and community capacity to address Under five immunization. By increasing health knowledge and self-sufficiency through a range of activities such as outreach, community education, informal counseling, social support, and advocacy, Sabrina, Karen, Emily, Camilla, Aarav, Gabriela, and Milka hope to prevent and lower the lack of knowldege of Under five immunization in the Guru community.

Your donations will continue to empower our team and communities across Bauchi State, Nigeria, giving us the opportunity to form connections and address local issues using community resources. Donors’ contributions have allowed our teams to carry out the mission of improving lives in Bauchi through supporting healthcare initiatives and working to create educational programs for its communities. Sabrina, Karen, Emily, Camilla, Aarav, Gabriela, and Milka have been engaged in months of cultural immersion and have been building connections with our partners in Nigeria to accomplish the goals of preventing and treating Early Childhood issues in sub-Saharan Africa. 

Sabrina, Karen, Emily, Camilla, Aarav, Gabriela, and Milka have been working with their project coordinator, Mubarak, to assess the current human rights violations surrounding Early Childhood Issues in the Guru community. They have had multiple skype calls with their project coordinator to develop a relationship with them as well as go over vital information. Currently, Sabrina, Karen, Emily, Camilla, Aarav, Gabriela, and Milka are working hard to create a community survey that will give them important data surrounding their health issue. They will then use this data to design a community workshop which will be given in the Guru community in the spring. This workshop will inform the residents of the community about Early Childhood issues and how they can be improved. Now that Sabrina, Karen, Emily, Camilla, Aarav, Gabriela, and Milka are equipped with your support they are moving forward on the path of doing everything they can to raise awareness for Early Childhood issues in Bauchi, Nigeria.
