Dear Friend,
We are excited to share an update on the incredible strides we’ve made this past month, thanks to your support! Each milestone represents hope and tangible progress for individuals and communities living in extreme poverty in northern Nigeria.
Empowering Entrepreneurs to Build Sustainable Futures
In Bauchi, 50 micro start-up business owners participated in an intensive, week-long business training program conducted by our dedicated Project Coordinators. For many of these participants, this was their first formal exposure to the foundational principles of owning and running a business, such as financial management, customer service, and strategic planning.
The training not only equips participants with the skills to succeed but also fosters economic independence in regions where employment opportunities are scarce. Official government registration of these businesses marks a critical step forward, providing legitimacy and access to additional resources, such as grants and market opportunities. These businesses are now better positioned to support families, create jobs, and stimulate local economies, directly lifting entire households out of poverty.
Listening to Communities to Address Public Health and Advocacy Needs
For the first time, residents in Birshi Gandu, Doka, and Sabon Layi communities had the opportunity to share their experiences and challenges regarding healthcare and human rights through baseline surveys. Designed by our passionate interns, these surveys were a groundbreaking step in understanding and addressing the unique needs of these communities.
The results have shed light on critical gaps in healthcare access and human rights awareness. These findings will guide the creation of community workshops tailored to empower residents with knowledge and solutions. For families who often feel overlooked and underserved, these workshops promise to address long-standing issues and build a foundation for healthier, more informed communities.
Transforming Healthcare with Upgraded Facilities
Access to quality healthcare is a life-or-death matter for many in northern Nigeria, especially for mothers and children. This past month, we made significant upgrades to the Nagari Medical Clinic and Maternity Ward, transforming it into a more efficient and better-equipped facility.
The clinic now has:
These upgrades mean families no longer have to travel long distances or rely on poorly equipped facilities for basic healthcare needs. For expectant mothers, the improvements in the maternity ward could be lifesaving, reducing the risk of complications during childbirth.
Why This Matters
In communities where resources are scarce and opportunities are limited, these milestones represent not just progress but a future where individuals and families can thrive.
Your support is directly impacting lives, breaking the cycle of poverty, and creating pathways to opportunity. On behalf of every entrepreneur, patient, and community member whose life has been touched, thank you for standing with us in this mission.
With gratitude,
The Leadership Initiatives Team
