International Program & Development Team Update

By Jessica Bailly | Chief Operations Officer

Dear Leadership Initiatives Donor,

Anya, Grace, Ashritha, Srija, and Aya in the International Public Health Internship Program have dedicated themselves to extensive cultural immersion, forging invaluable connections with our esteemed partners in Nigeria to accomplish the goal of fixing imperative issues that the community is facing.

Anya, Grace, Ashritha, Srija, and Aya have been working with Rabiu, a project coordinator in the field in the Kandahar Community. Through Skype calls, the team has learned about the obstacles facing individuals who are dealing with Water treatment/handling. Throughout this year, Team 23477 has demonstrated unwavering commitment and ingenuity in crafting a comprehensive public health proposal tailored to address the specific needs of the Kandahar Community. Their collective efforts extend beyond mere proposal development; they are actively engaged in initiatives aimed at enhancing access to vital medical and public health services throughout the community.

As Team 23477 approaches the culmination of their intervention efforts, they are preparing a community workshop aimed at empowering individuals and fostering collective resilience in addressing the pressing issue of Water treatment/handling. Through a multifaceted approach including outreach, community education, counseling, social support, and advocacy, Anya, Grace, Ashritha, Srija, and Aya drive to strengthen health knowledge and self-sufficiency within the Kandahar Community.

By equipping community members with the tools and resources, they need to navigate the challenges posed by Water treatment/handling, Anya, Grace, Ashritha, Srija, and Aya aspire to not only prevent its occurrence but also to reduce its prevalence significantly. This proactive initiative underscores their unwavering commitment to effecting positive change and fostering sustainable health outcomes in partnership with the resilient communities they serve.

Additionally, Leadership Initiatives is beginning work on multiple community development projects in rural areas of Bauchi, Nigeria. To highlight one, in the Gwallagan Mayaka community, efforts are focused on the installation of a borehole, a system that will provide clean and accessible water to residents, addressing a fundamental need for health and sanitation. In addition, there is only one health clinic within the community, making births and medical emergencies dangerous as they are underequipped. Leadership Initiatives is working to expand the medical clinic to help more members of the community by supplying them with equipment needs and building additional wings throughout the hospital. These projects underscore Leadership Initiatives' commitment to empowering communities, driving sustainable development, and creating lasting positive change.

On behalf of everyone at Leadership Initiatives, thank you for everything that you have done. We all truly appreciate your donation and support for our organization.
