As members of Leadership Initiatives' (LI) International Internship Program, we have been working through our partnership with the Bauchi community, to address human rights abuses through advocacy and raising awareness through research, community workshops, and educational training programs. Working with LI, Hannah, Malea, Alexis, and Amelia aims to mobilize support, secure adequate funding, and empower local organizations to combat human rights violations.
In Bauchi, Nigeria, human rights abuses are unfortunately common, yet awareness about these issues remains limited. A major challenge lies in the insufficient funding for crucial research, advocacy and awareness campaigns, and educational training programs. Many organizations, due to the lack the resources, basic training, and limited aid, are unable to support victims and implement preventive measures effectively.
Leadership Initiatives and our team work with local advocates and community leaders in Bauchi to assist them in creating local campaigns to increase awareness of human rights abuses, sex trafficking, educational system disparities, and child endangerment. In doing so, Leadership Initiatives, our team of interns, and community leaders will identify ways community members can report and work to contain/stop these abuses through awareness, education, and advocacy.
We will help create community that can identify human rights abuses, advocate for a safer community, empower individuals to spark sustainable development, and removes the stigma of victims to create a vehicle for advocacy in order to contribute to the growth of democracy and freedom.
