The integration of sports and Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) as a new
program at VAP has created interest among young people both boys and girls of ages 7-20
years. With a temporary ‘Community sports for STEM library’ available participants have been
engaged in various football drills, robotics combined with STEM education both theoretical and
practicals including coding The ‘community sports for STEM library’ creates a fun,real-world way
to teach computational thinking and problem solving in young minds which gives students the
opportunity to develop resilience, patience, team work, communication and creativity skills, all
through sports, learning and play. The partnership with Kenya National Library has scaled up the
project and this gives more opportunities to young people to access learning materials and
provides schools opportunities to make visits to the facility in turns during specific days. The
completion of the coming soon ‘Community Sports and STEM library’ will allow a maximum
number of young people to access learning materials and training including digital trainings that
would include computer literacy etc.
