Teaching Toddlers Safe & Unsafe Body Touch via Art

Thank you in advance for your support and for standing with us to protect children in Nigeria. Your interest in early childhood safety helps give toddlers the knowledge and confidence to understand their personal boundaries.

In Nigeria, six out of ten children experience some form of violence before age 18, with one in four girls and one in ten boys affected by sexual violence. Many toddlers do not know the difference between safe and unsafe touch, and adults often dismiss their concerns. Schools rarely teach this early, and discussing it at home is still considered taboo. This leaves children vulnerable in spaces that should feel safe.

The Teaching Toddlers Safe & Unsafe Body Touch via Art project will reach 2,500 children across six states using storytelling, drawing, and role-playing. These age-appropriate activities will help toddlers recognize personal space, understand safe and unsafe touch, and build confidence to express themselves. Caregivers and teachers will be involved to reinforce learning and ensure the message spreads beyond the sessions.

We thank you for your interest in this project. At this stage, we have not received any donations, but the need to begin is very urgent.

In Nigeria, 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 10 boys experience sexual abuse before the age of 18 (UNICEF). Many children are too young to understand the difference between safe and unsafe body touch, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation. Traditional teaching methods often fail to communicate this sensitive subject effectively to toddlers.

This project introduces an art-based method of teaching toddlers about body safety. Through drawings, paintings, and storytelling, children will learn to identify safe and unsafe touches in a way that is age-appropriate, engaging, and memorable. Parents and caregivers will also be guided on how to continue reinforcing these lessons at home.

Your donation will help us produce art materials, train facilitators, and organize community workshops. With this effort, toddlers can be taught protective knowledge early in life, reducing their risk of abuse as they grow.
