Small Rooms, Big Dreams!

By Benita Daraninggar | Project Team

Dear Supporters,

We are grateful to share some encouraging updates with you.

Rumbya

Thanks to your financial support, we continue to support Rumbya, a small learning space in a low-income community in Jakarta. Here, we have trained a local mother, Ibu As, who teaches children from the surrounding neighbourhood.

Using small classes and the Saya Suka Membaca  curriculum, Ibu As is creating a place where children can learn to read with confidence and enjoy the process. Many of the children who join these classes struggle at primary school or attend to prepare themselves before they start school. Together with Ibu As, our goal is not simply to teach children to read words aloud, but to help them understand, enjoy, and learn from what they read. As we believe that will make a lasting impact in their lives.

We are encouraged by the progress we see. Children who once struggled to recognise letters and read simple words are now reading books independently with growing confidence and understanding. These may seem like small steps, but we believe they are important stepping stones in each child's educational journey.

Empowering More Teachers

To bring the SSM curriculum to more communities, we organised an SSM Teacher Training in Jakarta last May. More than ten volunteer teachers and community leaders were equipped with practical tools to teach children how to read in an engaging and effective way.

Through initiatives like these, and through places like Rumbya, we hope to see lasting change in low-income communities across Jakarta. By equipping more teachers, more children will have the opportunity to experience the joy of reading and build a stronger foundation for learning throughout their education.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Your support makes it possible for us to continue investing in teachers like Ibu As and support these low-income communities in Jakarta.
