It is often said that a picture is worth a thousand words.
I think this old proverb is particularly relevant in the case of the photograph above that I took when I was in India back in February. The image shows a marked difference between two fields, each planted with potatoes. The field on the right is farmed by Rohit who is registered on our Agri-Management Services programme. The field on the left belongs to a farmer not registered with us.
It's clear to see that Rohit's crop is thriving, while his neighbour's is not.
That's because we have been working closely with Rohit for the past year, teaching him how to manage his plot of land and move from using chemical products to bio-fertilisers and pesticides and ultimately get the best results from his farming efforts. And it's paying dividends - quite literally. His yield is up by at least 30% and his profits from farming have increased by the same amount. Understandably, Rohit is delighted with these results and is planning to lease a second plot of land so that farming becomes a truly sustainable livelihood for him.
We now have worked with over 2,000 farmers like Rohit, taking them through a comprehensive training and advisory programme to ensure that their farming business is both financially and environmentally sustainable.
Thank you for helping us to make that happen.
Until next time....
Best wishes from the team at Shivia
