Our work in Janakpur is mostly concentrated around children's education and mother's livelihood. In this light we have been working with 5 public primary schools and a community.
Very recently, we conducted a survey in the Rajdevi community among 171 households. The total population is 914, consisting of 435 children and 51 elderly (above 60). Out of the 435 children, 255 (59%) are not attending school. It is clear from the statistics that the education of the community is extremely poor. There are currently two schools operating in the area.
It has come to our attention that focusing on the community is more important at this point. We had been having a conversation with the heads of the 4 public primary schools and now we will be concentrating our efforts in the community and the 435 children along with the 2 schools that are close to the community.
We will also be working with the mothers of the community and provide them seed fund to run an income generating activity.
