This project will help create a pool of trainers with the help of a Master Trainer who will be mobilised to the 5 public primary schools we work with. Every teacher is based in Janakpur, a rural expanse of Nepal. We will provide training on the pedagogy of teaching and teaching with compassion to benefit the larger number of children in the community. The training will also include school visit, cross learning, and peer review of the teachers work.
Teacher's training in the rural expanse of Nepal is challenging. Language is a barrier which can not be sidelined, however, the bigger obstacle lies in the methods prescribed. The basic understanding of conducting a class and dealing with the children in the region that has only theoretical understanding of how to run a class is the major gap identified. Children learn from the teachers and in this light the source of learning of the teachers is crucial and needs proper attention and nourishment.
We believe that delivering quality education first needs compassionate teachers. And, we are wholeheartedly trying to prepare the teachers to be compassionate and deliver what they know the best in the face of this material challenge. We want the teachers to not only teach them academic knowledge and skills, but sports, arts, music, culture, values and compassion. Through our teaching methodology we will encourage the teachers to expose themselves and the children to questioning and reflecting.
We wish to create a pool of trainers who can teach teachers to teach effectively and to be innovative in whichever setting they are. For that, we plan to actively build partnerships with the local governments and work hand-in-hand with them as they have all the mandates for enhancing the quality of K-12 education under their geographic jurisdiction. We not only want to work with the existing schools but wish to reach out to other regions with the pool of teachers we will have with this training.
