Teach permaculture& Fight Food Insecurity in Kenya

Neema recently extended permaculture training to members of the local community, building on the foundation already laid by teaching all Neema students and their guardians. This workshop marks an important step in expanding permaculture knowledge and practices throughout the community, promoting sustainable agriculture and self-reliance. The training emphasized the importance of crop rotation to preserve soil health and reduce pest and disease cycles. Participants also explored farm design for efficient water management, learning how to capture rainwater, prevent soil erosion, and retain moisture in the soil. A key feature of the session was vertical farming using cement bags, a practical solution for households with limited space to grow vegetables year-round.

In addition, participants were introduced to natural fertilizers and composting techniques, teaching them how to turn kitchen and farm waste into nutrient-rich soil enhancers. They also learned how to plant and manage beneficial trees such as Gliricidia sepium, Tithonia, and Calliandra, which naturally enrich the soil and support long-term farm productivity. By sharing these regenerative practices, Neema aims to empower families to produce their own food, improve nutrition, and strengthen community resilience in the face of environmental and economic challenges.
