Each year TANF Ghana organises a Christmas party for children within our community. The children are already looking forward to their 2016 Christmas party. The plan for this year is to make it bigger and better than the ones that came before. The party will be organised on 24th December 2016. We are aiming to invite up to 100 children. Donations will be used to buy food, drink, decorations, gifts, organise a DJ and music and organise fun activities, such as, board games, sports and dance-offs.
The problem is that due to financial needs most of the children's families in the community where we work cannot afford to celebrate Christmas. Most families do not have a Christmas tree, do not give out gifts and some spend the day doing nothing.
We believe that Christmas is a wonderful opportunity to get all the children in our community together to celebrate as one. This will raise their spirits, make them look forward to a brighter future and they will come closer together.
The potential long term impact is that the children within our community will feel a stronger sense of belonging and appreciation. They will know that someone cares for them and that they matter. We believe that development in our community and across Africa will only happen if individuals help each other, work together and develop as one.
