Reconstructing adobe houses

By Adriana De la Peza | Project Leader

Adobe buildings represent one of the techniques of the ancestor architecture of traditional communities in Mexico. Adobe is a low-cost and easily accessible material, as it is developed by local communities. The adobe structures are generally self-constructed, because the traditional construction technique is simple and does not require additional energy consumption.

The revitalization of adobe in Santa Cruz Cuautomatitla is being possible thanks to the project supported by the Globalgiving network. To date, Tamakepalis project has partially repaired 6 adobe houses, which had been affected by the earthquakes of 2017. Rather than supporting these families in the reconstruction of their homes, this work has provided the revaluation and rescue of ancestral techniques, which, unfortunately, go through a process of cultural forgetting.

We will continue working daily in the process of integral reconstruction of Santa Cruz Cuautomatitla, to attend to all the families that had their houses affected by the earthquake.

Thank you very much for supporting Tamakepalis!
