News from the workshops

Dear supporters,

Here are the latest updates on PEN PAPER PEACE’s project Talleres in Honduras:

  • Increasing demand for Talleres

The professional training project "Talleres" enables young people in Honduras to gain practical experience in various trades such as welding, automotive mechanics, painting, carpentry, electrical engineering, cosmetics, and tailoring in a three-year program. The classes are taught by Honduran professionals. Demand for the training programme increases every year. In 2021, 15 students completed their training at Talleres. In 2022, already 24 students graduated from Talleres. This year, 2023, we expect up to 50 graduates.

  • Voices from Talleres

We have received very positive feedback from the participants. Monica (15) is enthusiastic about her newly acquired skills: "Talleres will help me to find a job after or during my studies. How cool is it that I am able to install an electrical system in a house that gives someone access to light?". Louise (15) is excited about the equal educational opportunities for all genders at Talleres. Louise says, "One day I would like to weld at home and have my own workshop. Very few girls do welding training, but I really wanted to do it. This way I can take a different path in life and develop my skills." Emilson López is the welding workshop instructor at Pasos Pequeñitos. For Emilson, "It is important that the students learn welding very well so that they can have an income in the future." Emilson continues, "What moves me, is to share my knowledge with people who really want to learn and achieve their goals".

Unfortunately, the funding of Talleres is always at risk due to high inflation and an increase in the cost of living in Honduras. Will you help us keep Talleres running? Please consider making a donation to PEN PAPER PEACE. Thank you!

P.S. We have decided to no longer post portrait pictures of children in our partner projects in order to protect their privacy. Although there are photo policies, sometimes it is difficult to get informed consent across long distances. It is for this reason that you find emojis on their faces or sometimes illustrations of images :)
