We sincerely thank you for your generous donation to GlobalGiving's Taiwan Earthquake Relief Fund! Your generosity has enabled rapid and effective relief efforts for communities affected by the devastating 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Taiwan in April 2024, and the impact of that support will only continue to grow.

Your support of the GlobalGiving Taiwan Earthquake Relief Fund has been crucial in advancing community-led recovery. It has ensured that people struggling in the quake’s aftermath could receive food, water, shelter, and long-term recovery support in the form of housing reconstruction, education, and disaster preparedness training.

The Taiwan Earthquake Relief Fund has awarded three grants to high-impact and community-led nonprofit organizations at the forefront of communities in Hualien County impacted by the earthquake.

Here is a short description of some of the critical work you’ve supported:

  • The Mustard Seed Mission is a local social welfare organization in Taiwan that immediately  mobilized its Community Service Network to provide emergency shelter, care services, supply and food distribution to remote communities in Hualien County. MSM now plans to continue delivering essential supplies, financial aid, mental health support, education for children unable to attend school, and reconstructing housing in impacted communities.
  • Child Welfare League Foundationis a Taiwan-based organization devoted to advocating for child welfare. Within the initial aftermath of the earthquake, their team launched visit and care services for impacted children and families from its 24 service locations across Taiwan, supporting  education, nutrition, housing, and parental childcare in impacted communities.
  • Forward Allianceis a Taiwan-based nonprofit organization that responds to and prepares communities for emergencies.Through their Forward Volunteer Corps, the organization offers crisis response training and empowers local leaders and volunteers to build resilience in their communities. Forward Alliance is  hosting disaster response training for community members impacted by the earthquake and providing long term support to rebuild damaged infrastructure, debris removal, and necessary supply distribution in Hualien County.

This fund is no longer accepting donations, and this will be the last fund report of this kind from our team. Thank you for your donation and solidarity, which enable GlobalGiving to be a trusted partner to local nonprofits in disaster-affected communities.

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
