Health and hygiene is critical in keeping people healthy and well. Special kits are created for women to not only feel clean but to support feminine hygiene needs. This round of kits will be aiding Syrian Refugees in Turkey. Kits will be put together by volunteer groups and your contribution will aid in the purchase of supplies and transportation.
Syria's civil war is the worst humanitarian crisis of our time. Half the country's pre-war population - more than 11 million people - have been killed or forced to flee their homes. Families are struggling to survive inside Syria, or make a new home in neighboring countries. (Mercy C 3/2016) According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), over 4.8 million have fled to Syria's immediate neighbors Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq. 6.5 million are internally displaced.
These kits contain the supplies necessary to maintain basic hygiene, thus helping prevent the spread of disease. Kits designed to meet the specific needs of women and girls, an especially vulnerable population during times of crisis. Feminine hygiene needs are often overlooked and pricey items for shelters to have when they are overwhelmed by basic food needs for refugees.
Long-term impact helps with sanitary conditions and reduces the spread of disease. Just having the necessary items to basic hygiene improves health and well being.
