Thanks to all who have supported us to get to this milestone!
On Monday 23rd Feb 2015 at approximately 4pm, we opened our doors to the first cohort of would-be computer programmers keen to explore the 'gear' and get onto the machines.
In typical fashion, the pre-intalled minecraft game and the miniature wireless keyboard/mouse purchased, were the most intriguing aspects of the night for the boys; who also learnt how to set up the Raspberry Pi's and demonstrate what that have already learnt at school using the Scratch program.
As well as the Raspberry Pi 2's and their associated start-up kits, we have also upgraded/set up the computers, the printer, the projector and smart board that were donated to us.
The boys now have a fully functioning IT suite and all the hardware they need to explore cyberspace and gain basic software engineering foundations.
We still need to install newer operating systems and software on the PC's and laptops, as well as find a coding tutor to take the boys as far as they want to go. We are confident though, that with getting things off the ground the way we have, we will certaining be able to do this.
Its all very exciting, and in anticipation of what is to come we have purchased a domain (website) for the boys and are working with a developer to enable them to have their own website to showcase their progress.
Please do keep supporting and communicating with us as we journey towards our goal of enabling our young leaders to gain these vital skills.
Thanks for reading.
Joshua
