Summer Update 2016

By Kara Beckman | Project Leader

Happy Summer, Global Givers!

Well, yet another year has flown by before we knew it! Campus is quiet now, with classes and Commencement officially over. We wish all of our GlobeMed seniors the best in their future endeavors, and thank them for everything they’ve done to support us over the years.

Our seniors aren’t the only ones on their way out – we are delighted to announce next year’s co-presidents, Diana Litsas and Alexandra Burton! We have every confidence that they will lead our chapter in even greater directions next year! While Rie and Kara are sad to be stepping down, they could not have left the reins in better hands.

The semester finished out with many successes – our second annual Global Health Gala, hosted in partnership with Cornell Health International, was a great success. Check out news coverage of it at http://cornellsun.com/2016/03/01/gala-stresses-global-health-awareness-on-campus/. Many thanks to our speakers, Patrick Stover and Gen Meredith, and to all of the volunteers who made the event possible!

In April, we hosted our annual Strip for Solidarity 5K Run/Walk, which saw dozens of runners come out to run on an absolutely beautiful Saturday. Check out pictures from that event at https://www.facebook.com/GlobeMedatCornell/. We also began a new fundraiser, “GlobeMed Thrift Shop”, with great success. We will hopefully be expanding that fundraiser in future semesters, so stay tuned!

I am happy to announce that with your support, we will be sending our partner, AMMID, $7,000 this summer – the full amount of our pledged donation this year! Our GROW team is currently in Guatemala installing this summer’s round of water filters and analyzing the success and efficacy of previously installed filters. We will have lots of updates (and pictures!) for you by the end of the summer.

As always, a huge thank you to all of you for supporting our cause. We could not do it without you.

 Have an amazing summer, everyone!

 Lots of GlobeMed Love,

Kara
