Providing both food security and education!
By Shayle Havemann | Project leader
Introduction
Education is very important and a key to breaking the poverty cycle, however, many children in poorer or more rural areas struggle to stay in school and concentrate effectively as they are struggling with hunger and lack of nutritious meals. As well as affecting the children, hunger also affects the community members and staff which is why these community gardens could help to eliminate a range of issues.
Report
We have fully installed an aquaponics system at a local township school in Cape Town which will be launched next month providing the community with fresh produce and clean water while at the same time providing education on food security to the children at the school!

Sustainable food security!
This is a big problem in many countries as poverty is still a large global issue.
Report
This project is working to enable schools around the world to provide self-sustaining meals to students, through the implementation of vegetable gardens. We train the local community members that work at the school in crop management and in health and nutrition so they can become the local experts to ensure their students get a healthy meal that keeps the students' brain active and the catering costs down as the products are grown at the school. A donation of just $10 will fund a 100 seeds for a vegetable garden! $350 will provide the training and resources needed to set up a whole new sustainable garden for a school in a new community.
