Teaching Sustainable Agriculture to Young Tamils

“Bio-diverse Agri Trainings to 1500 Youth every year”

As of July, 2014 we have completed 6668 Youth through Project # 6265 started from October 2010. True, there is coverage.  Still, discovery of innovations for Biodiversity Agriculture is urgently needed. Hence, an evaluation meeting with Students of Agriculture College was made on June 9, 2014.(photo)

It was great encouragement to receive Ms. Neeharika (Neha) Tummala – the representative from Global Giving on July 10, 2014. She visited the training facility and saw compost models and bio pest repellents. She interacted with trained Youth. She also saw model farm of VOICE Trust (photo)

22 interested Youth of Maniyankurichi Village, Mannachanallur Block, Trichy District came for special training on July 20, 2014 in Country Corn Field. Nutrient management techniques were explained to them. Practical hints for Water Conservation and for maintaining Pest-Predator balance were shared by VOICE Team.

Besides training for 6668 Youth during 2010 to 2014 period being major component of this project, need for smaller and effective follow-up activities are proposed by Youth and others associated. Hence, VOICE Trust is proposing to modify the name of the Project and take follow-up actions.

Proposals for consideration by Global Giving and Friends of Earth in India, USA and Worldover

1. Start-up activities for seed bank to preserve indigenous varieties which withstand local conditions.

2. Preparation of Organic Manures by 4 Youth per village for supply to Nature Centric Farms.

3. Preparation of Bio Pest Repellents by 6 Youth per village to support Organic Farms in Trichy District.
