The project will strengthen the capacity of women's organizations so that they can actively participate in conflict prevention and advocate for the involvement of women in peace agreements and ceasefire processes in South Kivu. It will provide training on peacebuilding, women's rights, women's leadership, and peaceful conflict resolution, and will support local initiatives that promote peaceful coexistence and community resilience.
The province of South Kivu remains deeply affected by recurring conflicts, leading to massive displacement, violence, and chronic insecurity. The peace agreement signed on 04 December 2025 between the DRC and Rwanda has produced few tangible results, as the monitoring mechanisms remain insufficiently operational. Women, who are heavily affected but excluded from decision-making and oversight mechanisms, remains underrepresented, which limits the effectiveness of the peace process.
The project will strengthen the capacity of women's organizations in peacebuilding, women's leadership, women's rights, and advocacy. It will advocate for the inclusion of women in ongoing peace process mechanisms, the monitoring of signed peace agreements, and awareness-raising activities. It will support women's organizations conflict resolution and social cohesion initiatives, helping to prevent conflict, protect civilians, and promote sustainable and inclusive peace in South Kivu.
The project will have a lasting impact by sustainably strengthening the capacities and leadership of women's organizations, enabling them to continue their peacebuilding and human rights advocacy work. Women leaders will carry out advocacy and community monitoring activities with authorities. It will help reduce the low participation of women, the lack of information, and the absence of dialogue by creating inclusive spaces and local women-led citizen monitoring mechanisms.
