Every woman deserves safety, dignity, and the right to heal. Yet thousands of refugee and migrant women arriving in Greece are survivors of war, gender-based violence, and human trafficking-and face new risks of exploitation and isolation. This project by the Greek Council for Refugees (GCR) offers free, trauma-informed legal aid, psychosocial support, and empowerment services for women who have experienced sexual violence or trafficking.
Refugee and migrant women often arrive in Greece after long and dangerous journeys marked by abuse, coercion, and sexual violence. Many are survivors of trafficking. Once in Greece, they face language barriers, lack of access to services, and legal uncertainty. Without help, they are at high risk of continued exploitation, trauma, and re-victimization. These women are frequently isolated, without networks of support, and unable to navigate complex legal and social systems.
The Greek Council for Refugees (GCR) offers holistic, survivor-centered support, including legal aid, trauma-informed counseling, accompaniment to services, referrals to shelters and training, and empowerment workshops to build self-esteem and life skills.
Gender-based violence and human trafficking are not distant crises-they are happening now, often in silence, in communities across Europe. The women we work with have the strength to rebuild, but they need protection and support to begin that process. Your contribution helps ensure no survivor is left alone or unheard. Together, we can create pathways to justice, healing, and hope.
