Sustaining a family in the current Argentine landscape is a profound challenge. Informal labor now affects 43% of the workforce, but this reality is even harder for independent entrepreneurs, where informality reaches 62.5%. For women in vulnerable communities, the barriers are systemic: 70% of their businesses are born out of survival. Our programs provide the microcredit and financial education necessary to transform their economies and overcome these barriers.
A large portion of the vulnerable communities outside of Buenos Aires lack basic financial knowledge, tools and development opportunities. These communities also struggle to access affordable credit, and are met with sky-high interest rates when they seek credit for small projects, such as obtaining basic business materials or repairing the roof of their house. This struggle is even harder for women.
Our financial training courses, workshops, and talks teach community members about basic tenets of financial literacy, entrepreneurship, leadership, and communication - all integral parts of financial success and independence. We also provide microloans to strengthen businesses and small productive projects while accompanying community members with a savings methodology that promotes their economic independence.
By providing access to microfinance and financial training in vulnerable Buenos Aires communities, Nuestras Huellas strengthens participants' entrepreneurial activities and fosters a culture of savings. Participants' and their families' economic situations improve, housing improves, and economic planning improves so they can stop living in a subsistence economy (month to month). Long term, our programs strengthen bonds between members of the community and repair gaps in social capital.
