The Rwanda Down Syndrome Organisation is still making progress, continuing its work reaching out to people with Down syndrome and their families. The organisation is currently working on a website, which will enable them to promote their work across the country.
We have been reaching out to organisations working to support people with Down syndrome in new countries across the continent. One of these is the Down Syndrome Association of Tlemcen, an organisation based in Algeria. We have provided them with support and information on how to adapt teaching methods for children with Down syndrome, and also on supported employment as a method to support adults with Down syndrome to find work.
In Uganda we have been working with the Uganda Down’s Syndrome Association to support access to critical heart surgery for young children with Down syndrome. Some babies and young children with Down syndrome have serious heart conditions which require costly and complex surgery, which is out of reach of many families in Uganda. This is a very pressing issue as children have died in the past year without surgery, but we are identifying partners that can support these operations and save lives.
All this work has been made possible by the generosity of everyone who has donated to the campaign. We are very grateful to everybody who has donated and will carry on using all money raised to support people with Down syndrome across Africa.
Project reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
