At the Torkham border, over 5,000 Afghan families are returning daily from Pakistan, fleeing with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. Many of them have left behind their homes, jobs, and lives in Pakistan, arriving in Afghanistan with no resources to meet their basic needs. The situation is dire, as they have no shelter, access to food, or jobs to sustain themselves. Children, in particular, suffer from malnutrition due to the lack of proper nourishment and clean living spaces.
Aseel has stepped in to provide essential support to 500 families through its ongoing campaigns. We have distributed tents for shelter, blankets, carpets, kitchen supplies, steam pots, gas cylinders, and food packages to help them survive this hardship. These interventions have made a significant difference, offering these families a chance to rebuild their lives, even in the most difficult of circumstances.
Among the families we met, one man shared his heartbreaking story. His two children were suffering from neurological disorders and had lost their hearing. Despite his desperate situation, he could only afford food for his family and could not seek medical treatment for his children. His plea for help highlighted the widespread struggles faced by many families in the camp. Stories like these are common, and many families are facing similar challenges as they strive to survive and recover from their traumatic experiences.
Another family, recently returned from Iran, consisted of six or seven members. The children were seeing Afghanistan for the first time and were overwhelmed by the harsh conditions of the camp. The father, a skilled carpenter and furniture maker, and his wife, a tailor, shared their hope of rebuilding their lives through their skills. They requested tools and materials to help them regain their livelihoods and provide for their family. With support, they could make a meaningful contribution to their community and transform their situation. These are just a few examples of the resilience and hope that Aseel's assistance is fostering, offering these families a path forward in their journey of recovery.
