Of the 4 million Afghans currently living in Iran, between 500,000 and 1 million of them have arrived since August 2021 when the crisis in Afghanistan began. The majority have come with just a few belongings in search of shelter and safety.
Over the last 12 months, RI has led a multifaceted response to tthis crisis, supporting Afghan refugees now living at camps and transit centers on the eastern and south-eastern borders of Iran.
As mentioned in the last report, during the winter months RI provided dry food packages and winter equipment (blankets, warm weather clothes, and water boilers) to help refugees survive the cold winter.
Now, to deal with the hot summer weather, RI has provided 220 refugee households with fridges and coolers they can use to keep perishable food items.
Moreover, at one camp on the south-eastern border, RI has rehabilitated, expanded and provided medical equipment to an existing health facility structure; providing solar energy for lights and water heaters, constructing safe sanitation facilities (including for persons with disabilities), and installing 10 mobile hand washing stations.
We could not do this work without your support. On behalf of everyone at Relief International, thank you!
