Have-A-Heart Reaches Over 100 Dogs in 2014

Private -dog #100--going home after being fixed

We recently sent a report letting you know that the Animal-Kind International-sponsored Have-A-Heart-Luderitz spayathon was taking place November 21, and we expected that during that spayathon, HAH would reach (and go over) 100 dogs sterilized in 2014.

The good news for Private is that he was Dog 100 (see pictures of Private at the clinic, and Private being returned to his family).  Private is from Area 7, one of the poorest parts of Luderitz. This was the first time that HAH-Luderitz worked in that area.  During the AKI spayathon, six dogs came from Area 7, and HAH promised to go back there for the next spayathon.

In total, HAH-Luderitz s/n'd 105 dogs and 5 cats during 2014. The next Luderitz spayathon is January 2015.

During the November spayathon, almost entirely funded by AKI (a couple dogs had other sponsors), 21 dogs and two cats were sterilized.

Our GlobalGiving project will also sponsor the purchase of dog houses to be given to poor families with dogs, and we'll keep you posted on that project too.

Here's the plan for the dog houses (from Geesche at HAH-Luderitz):

"The two Buchter Girls [these are two girls who work at the Buchter News-a newspaper] volunteer at some schools, also at one in the poorest part (Area 7) of Luderitz and they are very very keen to help with the dog house project. They will organize the children of Area 7 to paint the dog houses and we are planning that the children of the family that will give the dog houses paint them. I think that will be a good learning experience for them do to something for their dog (and the dog house will even have more value for the family). And we will maybe also get one artist with a funny-all-over-luderitz-style for one dog house."

We'll have more exciting news for you as this project progresses!

Please let your friends and family know about AKI--and that 100% of all donations are sent to our partner organizations; and about the HAH GlobalGiving project. We need more donations to continue helping HAH and to stay on the GlobalGiving site. Thank you so much for your support!
