Food parcels
Food parcels

The new school year has started with great success in both Itzapa and Santa María, with the children knowing that their attendance and work in school goes towards their elderly relatives receiving regular food parcels in the future.

This February, The Phoenix Projects and our charity Fly The Phoenix are launching Corporate February, where we are aiming to create partnerships with the Corporate Social Responsibility programs of large and small businesses, so we can work together for the future of all our projects in Latin America.

Business can play a huge role in educating children and supporting communities and we would love to expand our portfolio of like-minded companies working with us to achieve our longterm goals of sustainable education and help for the aged in marginalised communities in Latin America.

If you, family and friends are part of any business who would like to get involved, please do donate, and share the link of our program for Guatemala. Even a phonecall to your manager or Head Office can make all the difference!

cheers

Vital regular nourishment
Vital regular nourishment

2013 is upon us, quicker I think than we all imagined, and not soon enough for the elderly generation of our kids in the school, as we resume our Old People's Program, regularly handing out basic foodstuffs to allow them to receive the basics to survive and provide vital education to their grandchildren that the elderly generation must not be forgotten.

This year, your very kind donations will be going towards packs of food, vital for the nutrition of the elderly. These packs, as ever, will include cooking oil, pastas, rice, sugar, salt, soups and medicinal plants. To cover each distibution costs around $3,000 so that over 200 elderly poeple receive what is required, hence your donations are of paramount importance.

We will also be investing in agricultural self-sustainable initiatives, the proceeds of which will benefit the the program with income to invest into the plan, as well as some of the products. Finally, we will also be running various charity challenges in Guatemala, so if you want to come down, see where your money is going, lend a hand and get involved in a charity challenge, please do email us on sarah@thephoenixprojects.org and have a look at the website on www.thephoenixprojects.org

Many thanks for making 2013 a special year, in the past, present and indeed future!

cheers

We would like to inform you about an exciting new development with this project in Guatemala. Over the past ten years, we have been promoting the basic human rights of full education, food and employment in communities in Guatemala. For this project, we have been focusing on providing food and essential items for the elder generation, who beforehand were simply left till last whenever there was food available for the community. Over this time, funds have been raised through the GVI Charitable Trust to cover these needed provisions. This project, in conjunction with others in Latin America, was known as the GVI Phoenix projects.

From 2013, these Phoenix Projects will be running independently as a new charity, Fly The Phoenix. If you wish to make future donations, please do continue to do so through this GlobalGiving page and have a look at the Fly the Phoenix website -  http://www.thephoenixprojects.org/. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported the communities in  Guatemala through the GVI Charitable Trust, we really cannot thank you enough for your generosity. We wish Fly the Phoenix all the best in the future.

The Phoenix Projects believe that full education, food and employment are basic human rights, and have spent the past ten years promoting these rights in communities in Guatemala whilst also providing food and essential items for the elder generation who simply were left til last when food was available.

From 2013, since The Phoenix Projects have set up their own charity, Fly The Phoenix, donations will be channelled to this charity and not the GVI Charitable Trust. We would like to take this opportunity to thank GVI and the GVI Charitable Trust.

2012 was a difficult year for the old people's plan although we did manage to provide many elderly people with food parcels and medicinal plants. In 2013, funds-permitting, we plan to return to our regular food-drops and increase the number of elderly relatives of our children who will benefit from this program. As our numbers swell in our schools, so to the numbers of elderly relatives and it is vital that, in these times of food insecurity and crop failure, that basic foodstuffs are available for the whole family, not just the adults, though the children and the grandchildren aswell.

Every three to four months, we plan to invest $2000 in the food parcels, which include rice, beans, sugar, oil, medicinal plants, soups, pastas, salt and other staple requirements. With each elderly adult receiving this parcel, it should be sufficient to see them through until the next installment. With the elderly receiving their food, there is more of the little there is in the household to go to the children, thus filling two sets of stomachs each day.

Happy Holidays to all our donors, past, present and future and thankyou in advance, especially in this time of our Christmas Appeal, which is raising funds for food for the kids in 2013

cheers

Thanks to the incredible generosity of a private donor, matching funds up to $2000 have been pledged to our Old People's Program, which has suffered a little this year with funding. With this generosity, we are lucky enough to be able to put the program back on track for the next few months which is fantastic, as well as the food parcels which are so important, especially as it looks like crops will fail for a third year in a row, will be started again to give them the basics that they need.

Many thanks once again to any donations, it is obvious to see the difference that they can make!
