Please help us support Baran, a four-year-old chimpanzee who arrived at Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary in July 2021. She was born prematurely in Eram Zoo and once her mother died, it became impossible for her to integrate with the other chimpanzees and so she was moved to a cage for her protection. She was brought to the Sanctuary, to live a better life and we cannot wait to help her settle in.
Since Baran's arrival, we have noticed that she does not exhibit all the behaviors we would associate with chimpanzees. She does not know how to climb ropes or to high areas, which is something chimpanzees would naturally do in the wild. This is not her fault - she did not have the opportunity to learn from other chimpanzees as she grew up alone. This is why, we are aiming to raise $5,000 to fund Baran's welfare for a year and give her the best start to her new life with us at Sweetwaters.
Given Baran's difficult past, she will require additional support. However, together we can help Baran learn how to be a chimpanzee. At the Sanctuary, which has 24-hour veterinary support, Baran has a dedicated caregiver who will monitor her closely. The experienced team will work to improve her mental and physical skills and once she is fully integrated into our chimpanzee community, she will learn from her new family.
With your help, Baran can live a healthy and joyful life at Sweetwaters! This is because the 250-acre sanctuary provides a safe space for chimpanzees to live, play and form close-knit bonds with other chimpanzees. Thank you for your support and we look forward to updating you on Baran's progress with us here at Sweetwaters!
