Mentorship and Milestones in Rural STEM

By Debbie and Team | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

As we step into the middle of 2026, we are thrilled to share how your continued generosity is directly transforming the lives of young minds in rural Zimbabwe. In our last update in February, we talked about providing the fundamental "Tools of the Trade"—textbooks, stationary, and solar-powered charging stations. This quarter, thanks to your steady support, we have been able to transition from establishing that vital tech access to unlocking the human potential using it.

Bridging the Gap: Mentorship in Action One of our major goals for this quarter was to ensure that "rural" does not mean "left behind" by identifying our top-performing O-level and A-level students and pairing them with specialized guidance.

We are proud to share that our virtual mentorship sessions are officially in full swing! Utilizing the tablets and laptops powered by our solar charging hubs, groups of students have been connecting directly with STEM professionals within the global Action Change network. For a student living in a village with limited electricity, speaking face-to-face with a software engineer, a medical professional, or an environmental scientist is more than an educational lesson—it is proof that their dreams are valid and achievable.

Overcoming the Odds: Exam Preparation and Beyond As schools progressed through the term, our focus remained heavily on academic resilience. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math are notoriously difficult to master when a single computer is shared among dozens of students. However, with the advanced textbooks and education packs distributed earlier this year, our students are no longer just sharing resources—they are leading peer study groups and diving deeper into complex curriculums.

Our solar-powered tech hubs continue to be the heartbeat of our digital learning. Even during local power grid fluctuations, these stations have remained completely offline and fully operational, allowing students uninterrupted study time to research for their upcoming examinations and practice foundational coding skills.

The Real Impact: Communities Changing from Within We continue to ground our work in a powerful reality: when you educate a child in STEM in rural Zimbabwe, you are solving local problems.

  • The Biology students are looking at agricultural concepts that can protect local crop yields against erratic weather patterns.

  • The Engineering and Math students are analyzing water flow and understanding the mechanics behind the solar boreholes that supply their villages with clean water.

Your giving ensures that these future leaders don't just learn theory; they are developing the exact skill sets required to uplift their communities from the inside out.

Looking Ahead: Keeping the Momentum Alive As we look toward the next quarter, we want to scale our curriculum development and secure even more comprehensive education packs for the next intake of high-achieving students. We rely heavily on your consistent support to keep these bright minds focused on their aspirations rather than the burden of school fees or supply shortages:

  • $15 funds a comprehensive education pack (textbooks and essential stationary) for a young student.

  • $50 funds a virtual STEM mentorship session for a group of 10 students, connecting them directly with industry professionals.

  • $1,000 supports our localized research and curriculum development for a full month to ensure we are teaching the most future-proof skills.

Thank You for Investing in the Future Food feeds the body, but education feeds the future. Thank you for continuing to stand by these remarkable young women and men in Zimbabwe. Because of you, a generation of rural students is looking at the problems of tomorrow not with fear, but with the confidence that they are the ones who will build the solutions.

With deep gratitude and pride in our students,
