Youth participation in a country where human rights are constantly violated is essential.
Here in the human rights center we have been working in order to raise awareness about the importance of recognizing youth as an active participant in the defense of human rights. Attempting this while addressing COVID-19’s impacts has been a challenge. However, we have witnessed a strong will within our young collaborators, as well as young people we support in different states. With the support of our allies we have been able to strengthen leadership skills by facilitating workshops and sharing practical tools that can be used in advocacy actions, legal strategies and support processes.
Even though most of our activities are still in a remote dynamic, young people have led and participated in several actions, including collective care gatherings, strategic meetings aimed at the construction of joint strategies at national and international level with other organizations and actors, legal accompaniment, workshops, among others. With these efforts, we have maintained an active participation, as well as plan future activities that will be important in the strengthening of intergenerational networks. These activities will also draw attention to relevant human rights topics in Mexico in the pandemic context.
We would like to share a testimony of a young woman who was part of one of our training programs:
"Being part of a program facilitated by CDH Vitoria has been one of the best experiences in my life, since it has helped me to work towards my personal goals. In addition, I have learned different things regarding the importance of communication and investigation in the human rights defense. After our work together, I am hopeful that we can build other possible worlds. I will continue generating actions, creating materials and activities, always taking into consideration a collective and diverse focus."
We hope to continue having your support and allowing youth to generate actions in the human rights defense.
