The Asherah Foundation offers scholarships to women from all over the world who have survived civil wars, extreme poverty, forced marriages, and discrimination, among others. Around the world, 82.4 million individuals, mostly women and children, have been forced to be displaced. Under these fragile and conflict affected situations, only 13% of females are enrolled in higher education. This project works towards raising funds to help women in these circumstances continue their higher education.
COVID-19 has caused significant disruptions in education due to delayed exams and lack of appropriate technology to participate in online classes. The project will help forcibly-displaced women to continue their education which has been and is disrupted by disabilities, conflict in their home countries, motherhood and the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Asherah Foundation will partly cover school-related expenses, ensuring that despite the financial problems, they can continue their studies until graduation. Their ability to attend school will not only translate into their ability to obtain a university degree, but also into a small milestone towards gender equality. The project will help women get closer to their academic goals.
Once they obtain their desired education, they will have the freedom to choose their own path in their careers and lives, making them more financially stable. The impact of the project will also bring a change in the opportunities for the next generation, the cultural norms and perceptions of women getting altered once successful women enter the work force.
