Women, girls, and LGBTQ+ individuals are leading social change in Puerto Rico. They are transforming communities, and the Fundacion de Mujeres en Puerto Rico, as the only fund dedicated to gender equity, supports this work. We are committed to advancing gender equality while fostering their leadership and community involvement by providing economic resources and structural organization support, as well as personalized training and guidance to strengthen their work.
Less than 2% of the global philanthropic investment is allocated to addressing the needs of women and girls worldwide, in Puerto Rico is even less. This lack of investment reflects a neglect of their needs and aspirations, perpetuating gender inequality. The insufficient resources limit their access to education, healthcare services, skill development, and economic independence, excluding them from leadership roles both within their communities and in other social spaces.
We promote gender equality by supporting community leadership projects and programs that address challenges in key areas such as education, employment, social participation, healing from situations of violence, and healthcare in their communities. With a collaborative approach, we strengthen their activist and leadership work to solidify social movements for gender and social justice. In this way, we value their voices, efforts, and participation for more equitable communities.
Empowering women and girls strengthens their ability to access and manage economic and social resources. By supporting them, we provide encouragement to advocate for their own well-being and become agents of change in their communities. This approach not only benefits women and girls but also triggers a transformation across the entire community, fostering a culture of inclusion and empowerment. In the long term, it contributes to shaping a future in which all individuals enjoy equity in rights.
