Vulnerability is extremely high in Lebanon, distinctly in the city of Tripoli, due to the challenging economic and financial crisis, Lebanon is facing along with the spread of coronavirus. In order to support the vulnerable community in Tripoli, especially those who have no source of income; are women-headed; or who have a member with a disability, SHiFT will equip its already established kitchen and use it to prepare and distribute warm and nutritious meals during the blessed month of Ramadan.
Lebanon has been going through a financial and economic crisis for more than 3 years. Now, the Lebanese pound is trading at LL20,400 to the US dollar with no end in sight to the crisis plunging ever-growing numbers into poverty. Many households are currently missing income sources and jobs and struggling to meet their basic needs. With the high-rocketing prices of almost all food products, this Ramadan, these families will risk going without healthy meals to break their fast.
SHiFT will equip its already established kitchen with needed tools and food products and work with women from the local community to cook healthy and warm meals during 30 days of the blessed month of Ramadan to be distributed to the underprivileged families in Tripoli. The distribution will primarily target households with no source of income, are women-headed, or have a member with a disability, allowing them to experience a holy month in a dignified way.
In the long term, once SHiFT's kitchen is operating effectively and running smoothly, it will be able to grow organically, sustain its services and work with other organizations on more projects to bring even more impact to the vulnerable community in Tripoli.
