One Week Ago, Ahmad Was Fighting for His Life. Now He's Getting Ready to Go Home!

By Baraa Ali | Fundraising Officer

Dear Supporter,

One week ago, we wrote to you about a newborn who was struggling to breathe. Today, we have news his family had been waiting to hear. Ahmad has improved, and he is getting ready to leave the hospital.

Ahmad was born prematurely at a SEMA hospital in northern Syria. He was just two days old when severe infections overwhelmed his tiny body. His skin turned blue. Each breath became a struggle. While his family waited behind the glass, Ahmad needed intensive care just to make it through those first critical days.

When we first shared his story, seven days of care lay ahead of him. We could tell you how urgently he needed help. We could only hope that a week later, we would be writing to you with good news.

Today, we can.

Over the past week, Ahmad received the care he needed from SEMA’s neonatal team. His condition improved, and now his family can begin to look ahead to something so ordinary and so precious after a week like this. They can get ready to bring their baby home.

There is a world of difference between waiting outside intensive care and preparing for the day your child leaves the hospital. A week ago, Ahmad’s family was living through the first. Today, they are getting ready for the second.

Thank you for responding when Ahmad’s situation was still uncertain. Your generosity helped our team provide the intensive care he needed through those critical days. It meant that, while his family waited for news, the people caring for him had your support.

The next milestone his family is waiting for is the moment they can carry him out of the hospital and take him home. After the week they’ve had, that moment will mean more than words can say.

From all of us at SEMA, thank you for standing with Ahmad and his family when they needed you most. We’re grateful we can share this news with you today.

With heartfelt gratitude,
